Why do most new cars have reflectors on the rear bumper, separate from tail lights?

Lia Argall: Many countries require reflectors on cars as a safety feature as when they are parked or break down they are still visible,It is def not a trend on Japanese cars from Japan as i own JDM vehicle from the 90's and they have reflectors also fitted stock.
